Sammamish, Washington a brief communtity profile

Sammamish, Washington
With the Seattle skyline and the Olympic Mountains to the west, and the looming grandeur of the Cascades to the East, Sammamish is home to 39,730 people. 22 miles from Seattle it is located on the Eastern shore of Lake Sammamish, between Redmond and Issaquah. Only recently incorporated in 1999, Sammamish history is actually the histories of several communities that struggled to grow independently and ultimately coalesced into one of the fastest growing and wealthiest cities.

Sammamish is an upscale community where areas like Sahalee and its custom homes and championship golf course have been the focus of development. Local business is retail and service oriented with several strip malls within the community.

Home Sales and Housing Market Statistics for May 2017 King County & the Eastside

Welcome to the May 2017 House Sales Price Report!
Key Takeaways:

With under a month of inventory, Sellers have a unprecedented advantage in this market.
Market Activity in began to tick up in February.
Home prices in King County continue to appreciate in the double digits this year.
Interest Rates moved up to 4.04% for a 30 year fixed mortgage.

UPDATE for Eastside Cities of Bellevue, Issaquah, Kirkland, Redmond and Sammamish, and King County

In May, King County Closed Sales saw an increase of 4.35%, from this time last year. The Eastside Closed Sales saw an increase of 4.17%. The median house sales price in King County was up 15.46% over last year to $560,000. The Eastside also showed gains with a median house sales price up 13.13% to $752,500.

Inventory Continues to Decline

Gilman Village in Issaquah

What do you do with old, dilapidated houses that may seem like eye-sores in a community? Well, you relocate them to a central location, dismantle, renovate and repurpose them into a retail mall. Well, at least that was the concept posed by Marvin and Ruth Mohl back in 1972. Rather than add a museum, Marvin and Ruth set out to preserve and honor the character and ambiance of the old community.

What began with controversy regarding the age of the buildings and whether or not they’d impede Issaquah’s reach into more modern living has become one of the area’s prized possessions. In 1977, Gilman Village received an award for quality of design and landscaping from the Issaquah Design Commission. In addition to Ruth and Marvin Mohl, the design team of Baylis Architecture and landscape architects Richard Haag Associates and Stephen G. Ray contributed to the shopping mall’s park-like aesthetics.
