Will real estate stop being an obssession in 2009?

In Seattle it seems that everywhere I go people can't stop talking about real estate.  What's my house value?  When will home values stabilize?  I bet it's tough being in real estate these days... and on the comments and questions go.
I did a bit of Googlesearch(kinda like research.) http://News.google.com shows 86,951 news articles about real estate and only 7,543 hits for "world hunger" news.  Of course you can get Googlesearch to say about anything, but the truth here is that we have become enamored no obsessed, with real estate and real estate related news.
The latest headline in the Seattle PI "Is a housing rebound coming in '09? Maybe."  is a good example.  Not to say that this isn't a good read.  It is and I do recommend reading the whole article.  I like the fact that Aubrey gets a few different points of view.  However my point is this.  Why does ...

Home Values? Why does one home in a neighborhood cost more than another?

I was talking to a home buyer the other day and he asked me a question that I thought would make a good post here.  He asked me: "Why is one home in a neighborhood priced X and one 3 doors down priced Y?" So I answered with a firm "It depends."  Sounds like a slippery slope, but the truth of the matter is there are many factors that influence the value of a home.  If you look around the Sammamish area you can find homes of just about every age, size, and style.  For starters, you should always compare apples to apples.  It isn't always fair to assume that just because a home is on the same block that it's the same.  Once you have established that the homes are identical,(perhaps a condo in the same condo complex) then it comes down to finishes, tile, hardwood, remodeled, etc.
There is much more that I could elaborate on but the final most important factor can be summed up in three words.  That right: Location ...

Is owning a home a goal for you in 2009?

One week down and 51 more to go.  As we look forward to 2009 there are two things I like to do this time of year to offer me perspective and direction.  Those two things are this: Review my accomplishments from last year and set my goals for next year.
It is always natural to be constantly looking at where you are and yearn for more, wishing we could weighed less, ate better, had that better paying job, the list goes on.  Why do we spend time making resolutions without reviewing our progress?  Reviewing accomplishments is a fairly new concept for me and I would encourage anyone, before you set new goals/resolutions, review what you have accomplished!  It will feel GREAT!
As you read this post you may be wondering what this has to do with home ownership.  Simple, is home ownership one of your goals for the year before?  How did it go?  In my experience buying a home is a process that should take more thought that has been afforded in ...

Bake’s Place Jazz Club, One of Issaquah’s best kept secrets!

Dying to get out?  Feel like getting a babysitter and spending the night on the town with Mr/Mrs.   You would love to but you don’t feel like driving all the way to downtown Seattle for dinner and a show.  Well you don’t have to.    Bake’s Place in Issaquah is the area’s best kept secret!   Bake’s Place is in Providence Point, which is right in between Issaquah and Sammamish.   It combines all the best for a night out, great food, great music and great people.  Bake’s is family owned and operated.  Dinner and a show is very reasonable, however you can show up just for the show if you like.  Guess what they also do catered events.  Check out their website and maybe go pick up a show.   As a matter of fact the Sammamish Chamber has their monthly luncheon there.  (full disclosure- I did have lunch there today!!!) Bake’s Place is truly one of Issaquah’s best kept secr ...
